June 10-12, 2021: Re-Opening the Bin - International Virtual Conference

The international digital conference 'Re-opening the bin – Waste, economy, culture and society' will be held 10-12th  June 2021 www.gu.se/otb2

The conference brings together a hundred scholars interrogating waste from a myriad of disciplines within social sciences and humanities, global South and global North communities, as well as practitioners, to critically discuss the places, roles and trajectories as well as the materialities, meanings, practices and vocabularies of waste in culture, economy and society.

Our keynote lectures and discussion panels are open to scholars and practitioners who are not participating in the conference:

·         Thursday 10th June, 10.00-10.30 am CET. Hervé Corvellec, Professor of Business Administration at Lund University, Sweden. "Anthropocene is the age of waste"

·         Friday 11th June, 09.30-10.00 am CET. Zsuzsa Gille, Professor of Sociology and Director of Global Studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA "Global and transnational perspectives in Waste Studies"

·         Friday 11th June, 15.30-16.15 pm CET. Discussion panel, "Inclusive recycling and grassroots innovations, a perspective from the South"

·         Saturday 12th June, Gay Hawkins, 09.30-10.15 am CET. Professor in Social and Cultural Theory at the Institute for Culture and Society at Western Sydney University, Australia. Prof. Gay Hawkins will moderate the discussion panel "Making Waste and Making Waste Studies"
